Dumpster used to clean up after hoarders

Waste not, want more.

The commonly cited axiom “waste not, want not” frequently results in people collecting items that they feel might be of use to them in future. Without realizing, people start collecting things which probably serve no current or future purpose. This situation could result from an unconscious psychological condition, triggered by depression or some kind of brain damage. Recent television series have brought attention to this psychological disorder, commonly called compulsive hoarding. Hoarding can eventually lead to a huge financial strain of having to rent storage facilities or garages for things that can’t be stored in a house or apartment. Hoarders are notorious for extensive collections of material goods, without really putting a value to any of it. Material overflows into living areas, and the owners are frequently unable to maintain any of it, leading entire residences looking like giant trash cans. Sometimes relatives are left to deal with a hoarder’s possession after his or her death. In these cases, it is necessary to rent a dumpster to clean up the mess left behind.

In Baltimore, Roll Off Dumpster Direct was hired to assist in a hoarder clean out project. Jim Stewart was still in a state of shock when he approached us. He had returned to Baltimore after twelve years, when he learned of his mother’s death. Through his grief, he saw that the warm, cozy home of his memory had started to resemble a landfill. He remembered that his mother used to love collecting things like cutlery, bed linen, decorative figurines, a habit which became an obsession in her later years as she lived by herself.

The house was covered with piles of books, papers and magazines as high as five feet, with hardly any space to walk. Jim had to step on plastic bags filled with clothing and other dollar-store purchases. He could not imagine how he would sort through his mother’s belongings, to find out if there was anything of value. Jim only had a few days to complete the cleanup process so he decided to rent a dumpster and remove everything at once. After discussing the square foot of the home and the general waste content with Roll Off Dumpster Direct, Jim decided the 20 yard roll off dumpster rental would be ideal to clear out his mother’s residence. The container’s ample capacity, yet low wall heigh of 3.5’ made it the right fit for the job. Jim was wise to not be penny wise but pound foolish and try to fit everything into a smaller container – he used every bit of space in the 20 yard container!
